The "Debit Map" scam
This is the #1 problem of the landlords in Morocco. International agencies require a Credit card (CREDIT statement on the card) to block the deposit (often 1000€ to 2000€). If you present a "DEBIT" card, they will require you to pay a very expensive supplementary insurance (approx. €20/day) or refuse the rental. Tip: Local agencies are often more flexible on this point, but always require a written contract. Useful Information- Carburant: There is no service station at the airport. Check the gauge and plan to switch to Shell or Afriquia station at the city entrance (6 km).
- strong>Restitution: It is possible to rent in Essaouira-Mogador and return the vehicle to Marrakech airport or Agadir (abandonment fee approx. 500 MAD). Roads to Sidi Kaouki or Diabat are paved. A 4x4 is not essential unless you plan to get off the beaten track.
