Mint Tea & Pastries

Mint tea is not just a drink; it's the "Berber whisky," a symbol of hospitality and sharing. In Essaouira, it's enjoyed facing the sea or in the privacy of a patio.

The Art of Serving
Observe the gesture: the teapot (berrad) is raised high to aerate the tea and create a foam (the turban) on the surface of the glass. A good tea should be served three times, each glass offering a different flavor, from the most bitter to the sweetest ("The first is bitter like life, the second is strong like love, the third is sweet like death").

The Delight of Gazelle Horns
Be sure to accompany it with local pastries. Essaouira is renowned for its gazelle horns (Kaab el Ghazal) with a subtle orange blossom flavor, and its Ghriba cookies with walnuts or sesame. It's the perfect 5 pm treat after a walk in the trade winds.
