The Ballet of the Blue Boats

The port of Essaouira is not a tourist attraction; it is the beating heart of the city. A place of intense, noisy, and fragrant life that has not changed for centuries.

The Morning Fish Auction
If you want to feel the soul of the city, get up early. Around 7:00 a.m., the trawlers return to port followed by flocks of hungry seagulls. It's time for the fish auction, a fascinating spectacle where crates of sardines, sea bream, and white seabream are exchanged in an organized frenzy.

A Living Shipyard
The port is also one of the last traditional shipyards in Morocco where trawlers are still built from eucalyptus wood. You can watch the shipwrights working by hand, caulking the hulls and painting these famous boats in that characteristic "Mogador blue."

The Culinary Experience:
Don't leave without tasting the local cuisine.

Buy your fish or seafood directly from the fishermen and have it grilled in the small eateries located right at the entrance to the port. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
